Project Description:

The Assumption Church project is located at 812 North Salina Street and was completed in the Fall of 2020. The Assumption Church is a Franciscan Catholic Church located on the City’s Northside Neighborhood that secured Green Improvement Fund funding in 2017 for a new porous pavement parking lot and other green improvements. This project replaced the impervious asphalt parking lot with sections of porous pavement to manage building roof and parking lot runoff. It also added two rain gardens, to manage part of the building’s roof runoff. Approximately 11,500 square feet of porous asphalt was installed, and two rain gardens totaling 2,000 square feet were also constructed. Four roof drains on the building were disconnected from the combined sewer and retrofitted to discharge to the rain gardens. Three roof drains on the north side of the building were disconnected from the combined sewer and retrofitted to discharge into the porous pavement. Additionally, over 800 square feet of added greenspace was installed near the entrance and exit of the parking lot. Overall, the installed green infrastructure will capture approximately 605,000 gallons of stormwater runoff annually.
