Project Description:

The Courts4Kids program, a collaborative initiative of the Jim & Juli Boeheim Foundation and the Carmelo K. Anthony Foundation, provides funding for the renovations of basketball courts throughout the City of Syracuse. The program is intended to offer children in socio-economically disadvantaged sections of the City the opportunity to participate in healthy living activities, such as basketball, and improve play areas for children in the community.

Save the Rain partnered with the Courts 4 Kids program, along with City of Syracuse Parks Department.  The Courts4Kids project at Skiddy Park was be the first “green” basketball court constructed in the City of Syracuse using porous asphalt, designed to absorb stormwater where it lands. This prevents harmful pollutants from discharging directly to local streams and will improve the water quality of Harbor Brook and Onondaga Lake.

The Skiddy Park partnership is the first of its kind in Syracuse and will provide the neighborhood with a new environmentally friendly park for kids and families throughout the community.
