The Near Westside Initiative Performance Park GIF project, located at the corner Wyoming Street and Marcellus Street is currently under construction, with completion expected in 2019. The project transforms a 100% impervious vacant space into a neighborhood asset, complete with exercise equipment and a performance stage. The GIF work consists of the installation of underground infiltration trenches, porous pavement, and tree trenches which will store and disperse stormwater from more than 115,000 square feet of impervious surfaces back into the ground. The nearby building roof drains were disconnected from the combined sewer and routed to an underground, prefabricated storm trench chamber system. Porous pavement is being used for parking and other areas within the project as well. In total, 43 trees will be planted as part of the project and more than 17,000 square feet of conversion of impervious areas to green areas will occur in the project. Overall, the installed green infrastructure will capture approximately 2,189,400 gallons of stormwater runoff annually.
