Onondaga County’s Department of Water Environment Protection will host a public meeting to discuss plans for construction of the Lower Harbor Brook CSO Conveyances and Storage Facility. The new storage facility is a state-of-the-art project designed to manage combined sewer overflows (CSO) and provide underground storage during wet-weather events.
The project is part of Onondaga County’s “Save the Rain” program, launched by County Executive Joanie Mahoney, to further efforts to cleanup and restore Onondaga Lake and its tributaries. The program includes construction of traditional gray infrastructure projects and the implementation of an innovative green infrastructure plan to reduce the effects of storm water pollution. In 2011 the County will initiate several gray projects, such as the Lower Harbor Brook CSO Conveyances and Storage Facility, as well as implementation of the “Save the Rain-Project 50” campaign to construct 50 distinct green infrastructure projects over the course of the year. The Lower Harbor Brook CSO Conveyances and Storage Facility are scheduled to begin construction in late 2011.
Representatives from Onondaga County’s Department of Water Environment Protection and the County’s consultants including CDM/C&S, EEA and CH2M Hill will be in attendance to provide an overview of the conveyances and storage projects, present architectural renderings of the proposed facilities and discuss the green infrastructure program. The County’s team will be available to answer questions during this meeting.
