Porous paving (also known as pervious paving or permeable pavement), is a term used to describe paving methods for roads, parking lots and walkways.
Porous asphalt, concrete, paving stones or bricks allow precipitation to infiltrate through to the soil below.
Porous Pavement in Cold Climates:
In December 2012, Sustainable Technology Evaluation Program released a report entitled “Evaluation of Permeable Pavements in Cold Climates” resulting from a 3 year study of performance of several types of porous pavement in Ontario, Canada.
In March 2011, over 150 people attended a workshop entitled Porous Pavement in Cold Climates: Green Infrastructure, Green Jobs, Green Funding at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse, NY. The event was hosted by Onondaga Environmental Institute, The Partnership for Onondaga Creek, the Environmental Finance Center, and SUNY Environmental Science & Forestry.
