Project Description:
The Green Roof at the Magnarelli Community Center highlights the continued partnership of the Save the Rain program with the City of Syracuse Parks Department. This project is the first green roof constructed on City Parks’ property, and the tenth overall Green Park project in the Save the Rain program to date. As part of the partnership on this project, the City Parks Department funded the cost of re-roofing the Community Center, while the Save the Rain program funded the cost of the green roof system.
Two separate green roofs were installed at the Community Center. One was installed on the roof above the gymnasium and the other on a lower roof. The vegetated portion of the green roof consists of a low-growing sedum mat that features many vibrant colors throughout the year. The green roof system at the Magnarelli Community Center captures approximately 183,000 gallons of stormwater annually.
