Project Description:
In Summer 2011, a green roof system was installed on the 60,000+ square foot rooftop of the Convention Center. The roof includes a waterproof membrane liner that is covered with a layer of lightweight growing medium, and planted with a mix of sedums (low-growing succulent vegetation). The new rooftop landscape is a self-sustaining system, requiring little maintenance once established, and relies upon natural processes to retain and evapotranspirate storm water runoff. This is one of the largest green roofs in the Northeast region.
This green roof is also the site of innovative research conducted by Syracuse University Professor Cliff Davidson and his research team. They will be monitoring stormwater capture and temperature variation within layers of the green roof.
